THE STORM BRACE |
The Storm Brace is used to secure plywood or paneling over windows and glass doors in the event of a Hurricane or Tropical Storm. The Storm Brace is “Katrina” tested and proven to work perfectly even under sustained 120-135mph winds for over eight hours. For those of us who can’t afford storm shutters these make the usually difficult task of boarding up a snap. No more drilling or nailing into your home or business. The only thing the Storm Brace requires is at least a (1-1/4) inch opposing edge to push against.

Sizes The two sizes are for different spans that need to be covered. 5/8” Brace covers up to 7 foot spans Larger spans must use the 3/4” Brace |
.You may purchase the Storm Brace ready mounted to a 2x4, then just cut to fit your window opening. Or you can save a little money by providing the wood stock then drill and mount the braces yourself. Usually two Storm Braces per window will work fine. (see example above right) Measure your window openings and give them to me and I will mount and custom cut them for your home or business. I will need time in advance of a storm though.

Large Windows and glass doors are no problem to protect anymore! |

They can be used in a vertical or horizontal position |

Once made, these can be used over and over. I have used the same set for my house for over 4 years. Just spray a little WD-40 on them every year. (Store your braces so the lumber doesn’t warp.) Always use a wood shim between the metal foot and your brick to prevent scarring and to insure a tight hold! A customer told me to glue the shim onto the spinning foot with liquid nail then you don't lose them. Place your plywood panel in the window opening, then push your 2x4 with brace firmly up against the plywood. Use the Storm Brace to hold your plywood securely up against your window. While holding the 2x4, place the wood shim under the moveable or spinning foot plate then slide the Storm Brace firmly up against the wood shim pinning it to your brick so it will not fall. Then begin to tighten the Storm Brace turn handle until the foot sinks into the wood shim. When you have accomplished this the other end of the 2x4 will automatically be forced tightly up against the other side of the window casing. |
The Storm Brace is extremely strong. I can stand on one of the short braces when tightened properly, and I am a large man! |
DIRECTIONS FOR USE |
When the 2x4 will not move when you push or pull against it you are finished. Remember to make sure the 2x4 is firmly up against your plywood before tightening the storm brace. If there is to much play between the 2x4 and the plywood loosen the turn handle and do it again. With a little practice this procedure becomes very quick and easy to perform. I DON’T RECOMMEND STANDING ON THE STORM BRACES EVEN THOUGH I DID ON THE NEWS! |
